SYNOPSIS
When his musical YANK! was produced in Rio, David found himself part of a passionate community of theatre makers—including the vibrant young producer, George.
Two years later, George was dead.
With the goal of creating a memorial to George, David returns to Brazil to talk to his collaborators, friends, and family. But as he continues further into the rabbit hole of George’s personal life, David is forced to wrestle with his own feelings and fears about sexuality, setting his memories of the early AIDS crisis against the mystery of how George died. Throughout the journey, David’s friend Hugo—the openly gay telenovela star who played the lead in YANK!—questions David’s motives and the true source of his desire to understand George’s life and death.
Structured as an investigation—combining documentary theatre with personal memoir—O TIME lives in the space between countries and cultures, language and translation, past and present.
