Thrilled to have THE UDMURTS selected out of dozens of entries for this amazing reading series! And thrilled that I'll be in Chicago to hear it! -David Carrie Lee Patterson presents An Equity Library Theatre-Chicago Reading Series. Equity Library Theatre Chicago, founded in 1952, is Chicago's oldest ongoing producing showcase organization for and by members of Actors' Equity Association. ELT is dedicated to providing challenging work for members of the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) the union of professional actors and stage managers. The ALL ACCESS Reading Series presents three new plays selected for excellence in celebrating protagonists with under-represented voices in the theatre. This project is partially supported by an Individual Artist Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events, as well as a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. Monday August 17th at 7:00PM Chicago Dramatists, 1105 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL, 60642 Admission is Free; Donations are accepted. THE UDMURTS by David Zellnik Directed by Barbara Zahora Nate, a runaway teen from Florida, finds his way to the ramshackle Queens apartment of Mrs. Huff, a once-glamorous foreign actress, living in exile from a (real) place called Udmurtia...and also to Clem, a child of the “One Percent” who promises Nate a way out of poverty. A dark, funny, and suspenseful journey, THE UDMURTS explores how we find home – and hope – in a collapsing world. |
