So thrilled to announce that Yank! in Brazil won four national theatre prizes! The Cenym Awards awarded our show "Best Cast" (deeply deserved!), "Best Song" (A Couple of Regular Guys), "Best Poster" (Congrats Thiago!)... ...and "Best Musical!" Utterly overwhelming for our scrappy musical produced with a lot of heart...and very little cash. I'm so proud of the team that made this such a unique version of Yank!, its first in another language. So honored that Yank! can speak to a Brazilian audience, especially during this time of crisis and increased homophobia across the nation. The talent in Rio was immense and I hope the show comes back for another season (in the works!) Till then, winning these awards certainly is deeply humbling and immensely gratifying. -D |

An exciting few weeks for my one-acts. A theatre in Italy remounted 3 of my favorites, in Italian!: Karmic Thunder, Mohammed and the Sleeping Cat, and Sunday Paper - all plays about time passing, what we owe our friends and lovers, and the roiling inner lives we often hide.
Then November 18th, under the excellent direction of Noelle Ghoussaini, my new play THE SCHMOOZE (written under the pen name Ah@d Ha'@m) is premiering at Columbia's Lenfest Center. You can read it on Break the Wall ...and while you're there, check out our new plays for this website project, started by me with Ismail Khalidi! |
