"Casting is now complete on THE F#@%ING WRIGHT BROTHERS, part of the New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC 2018. This production is the New York Premiere of this comedy by David Zellnik (Yank!) with songs by David Zellnik and Eric Svejcar (Caligula), directed by Abigail Zealey Bess (The Radicalization of Rolfe) and produced by Glenn Krutoff.
The cast is: Harrison Chad (Caroline, or Change), Jarid Faubel (The Blacklist), Jordan J. Ford (Dogfight @Speakeasy Stage), Montana Lambert Hoover (Old Names For Wildflowers), Joseph Medeiros (Groundhog Day), Randy Merrill (Really, Really) and Tam Young (Law & Order: SVU).
Sex! Drugs! Children's theatre! The F#@%ing Wright Brothers is a backstage comedy about non-equity actors on a 58-city van tour of America. For two hours a day they sing about the Wright Brothers. Which leaves 22 hours for hook-ups, meltdowns, petty crime, showmances, seedy hotels, and Broadway dreams.
This play with songs was originally developed under the title Orville and Wilbur Did It! with the New Colony TheatreEnsemble in Chicago in 2013/2014. The revised version now feature five songs and was presented by The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series.
Author David Zellnik says: "Creating the first draft with The New Colony was a blast, and working on this newer version - with more songs, and deeper character development - with an amazing New York cast is so exciting. I can't wait for audiences to share in the lunacy of these tours and the improbable love story at the heart of it."
Director Abigail Zealey Bess adds: "The love story isn't just between the actors in the van, but for these rather amazing children's theatre van tours themselves, which is how so many actors get their Equity cards. I'm fascinated by the giddiness and strangeness of driving through America with five other people who you love, loathe, perform with, have sex with, and, well, expose everything to. And it's the funniest show I've worked on!"
